CRIME NEWS

  • A 25-year-old man from McFarland, James Barnes-Morris, was charged with murder and domestic abuse after Brooke Strattan died on Oct 3 following troubling statements he made before she disappeared—he will go to court today at 1:30 p.m.  WISC-TV
  • Madison man Nathaniel Douglas pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide and was sentenced to 25 years in prison with 10 years extended supervision while Keyonta Blaney pleaded guilty to illegal gun possession, harboring a felon and using a vehicle without consent and received 10 years in prison with six years extended supervision—another co-defendant, Julius Jones, pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide and was sentenced to 15 years in prison with 10 years extended supervision—all conditions include no contact with the victim’s family or known gang members.  WKOW
  • A Madison man, James Barnes-Morris, is accused of first-degree intentional homicide with a domestic abuse enhancer in the death of Brooke Strattan—a McFarland woman found dead in a retention pond—police said he changed his account of their last encounter and is set to appear in Dane County court today.  WMTV

  • RoundTrip, a free public program in Dane County, is encouraging community members to use sustainable transportation during its annual Spring Roll Challenge in April—participants 18 and older may win prizes by riding the bus, biking, walking or carpooling.  City of Madison

  • The TSA reminded passengers that firearms must not be carried in carry-on bags after officers intercepted 5 firearms at Wisconsin airports this month — including 2 loaded handguns found on March 24 at Appleton International Airport where law enforcement took control.  WKOW
  • Voters are seeing ads ahead of the Wisconsin Supreme Court race on April 1, which will also let them decide whether to enshrine the voter ID law—a law passed 14 years ago amid debates over voter fraud and turnout.
