GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Oct. 23, 2024, Samuel Hoffland became ill and crashed his car after eating a THC-contaminated pizza at Famous Yeti’s Pizza in Stoughton and later filed a lawsuit claiming the restaurant was negligent due to a legal loophole—one that allows hemp-derived products to be prepared and served without state regulation. Similar problems, including a June incident where children were hospitalized in Milwaukee after taking THC gummies, show that the lack of oversight continues to put consumers at risk. PBS Wisconsin
- ➤ The Madison Common Council is considering an ordinance to restrict the sale of hemp-derived THC products to those 21 and older—shops must also display signs and keep these items behind a counter to help limit youth access. The proposal includes zoning rules to keep retailers away from schools, YMCAs, and similar facilities. WKOW
