- ➤ Dozens of families and advocates gathered Saturday at Brittingham Park to honor the memory of Jackie Kadinger, who was killed in domestic violence in 2022. Her parents launched On Jackie’s Wings to help others find safety—raising funds for Domestic Abuse Intervention Services and a scholarship for her son through a walk to the Capitol, music and a silent auction. - ➤ Centro Hispano held its 42nd Annual Celebration at its new building on Madison’s south side, with live music, food and community awards. The event honored local leaders such as Linda Ketcham, Joselyn Diaz-Valdes and Gabriel Saiz—showing its strong focus on cultural enrichment. WKOW
- ➤ The Dane County chapter of NAMI held its 20th annual walk Saturday in Madison along Lake Monona where over 1,000 participants walked two miles or a 5K to raise close to $300,000 for mental health advocacy. UW Madison professor Michael Peterson and longtime supporter Marcy Marquis led the effort to unite families and experts in support of mental wellness—honoring loved ones and fighting stigma. WMTV
- ➤ McFarland Community Ice Arena unveiled its new expanded facility and the Starion Bank Rink during a Saturday grand opening celebration. The upgrade, backed by a $2.5 million loan from Starion Bank, expanded the 31-year arena by 13,500 square feet—adding a training center, lobby, and new high school locker room. WKOW

- ➤ Tropic Jewel, a colorful bead and jewelry store near the UW campus, will close at the end of October after 35 years on State Street. Co-owner Shelby Grote said the shop is offering a 20 percent discount on all items so customers can visit before it shuts its doors. WMTV

- ➤ Middleton High School and Glacier Creek Middle School held their annual memorial invitational race Saturday in memory of Middleton student Evan Kratochwill who died in 2021 in a drunk driving crash — nearly 250 participants ran early to honor his passion for cross country. WMTV
