- ➤ Community members marched 18 kilometers Saturday in Monona and Madison—Operation Ruck 22 held its 10th and final event to raise money and awareness for local veterans’ programs, and a new organization will launch a similar march in Fitchburg in 2026. WMTV
- ➤ On Saturday, Sub-Zero employees and Habitat for Humanity of Dane County built a future home on Capitol Square in Madison. Volunteers framed and raised walls on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard—near the Wisconsin State Capitol—to help provide safe, stable housing for a local family. WKOW
- ➤ Mothers Against Drunk Driving held its second Move With Madd event Saturday morning at Vilas Park—dozens of people walked to support families and victims impacted by impaired driving. Signs sharing crash victims' stories honored those affected while group leaders said the event aimed to educate locals on road safety. WMTV
- ➤ University of Wisconsin mascot Bucky Badger celebrated his 85th birthday with a parade down State Street and a party at the Memorial Union Terrace — featuring a new Bucky-themed ice cream flavor that marked the largest birthday event in UW Athletics history. - ➤ The annual World Dairy Expo will return for its 58th year at the Alliant Energy Center—its longtime home in Madison. Wisconsin State Journal
- ➤ Cheese lovers attended Madison's Cheese Fair Off The Square at the Dane County Farmers Market to sample a variety of local cheeses from nearly 20 makers—celebrating Wisconsin's long cheese-making tradition. Visitors from over 30 states joined the event to experience the state's rich dairy heritage. WKOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Test scores released by the Department of Public Instruction on Thursday showed that statewide English Language Arts and reading scores improved slightly while math declined marginally from last year. The Madison Metropolitan School District reported much lower percentages than the state in math, ELA, and reading benchmarks—though its ACT reading scores exceeded the statewide average. WISC-TV

- ➤ At its third annual open house event, North Winds Rescue in Deerfield learned it was one of nine groups statewide to receive a $50,000 grant from Gov. Tony Evers' administration—funds that will support veteran mental health programs and help expand its work rehabilitating neglected horses and finding them new homes. WKOW
- ➤ The 17th annual Black Women’s Wellness Day took place all day Saturday at Monona Terrace—hosted by the Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness to encourage healthy living among Black women. Gabe Doyle, the chief health initiatives officer, noted the event highlighted local challenges and may expand to other cities in the future. WMTV
