COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, the Wisconsin Medical Project hosted its Warehouse Celebration at Demetral Park Shelter in Madison to honor volunteers and highlight its global work sending medical supplies to underserved communities. President Mick E. said the event revived a nearly 25-year thank-you party—paused during COVID—to support shipments to African countries.  WKOW
  • Today more than 250 people gathered at the East Side Club for the Sips and Slices fundraiser that featured 11 chefs in a tailgate-themed cooking contest to raise funds for The River Food Pantry. The event supports eight programs serving over 4,000 people weekly—donations will help the pantry expand to a new facility.  WISC-TV
  • Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary from Wyoming is ready to help rehome thousands of dogs from Dane County dog breeder Ridglan Farms—teaming with Wisconsin’s Marty’s Project and other rescue partners if needed. Executive Director John Ramer will meet with local state and county leaders this week to discuss proactive solutions for animal welfare.  WMTV
  • The 9th Annual Puptoberfest in Verona featured live music, brews, and a guide dog demonstration as OccuPaws celebrated its work of providing fully trained guide dogs for adults with visual impairments—an event hosted by Wisconsin Brewing.   • Midvale Community Lutheran Church on Tokay Blvd began a $4 million renovation project on Sunday morning with a wall smashing and blessing service. The project will expand the church's ministry wing for Bible studies, yoga, and other programs (meeting community needs).  WKOW

  • At Cap Times Idea Fest, Angela Denker and Robert Jones warned that Christian nationalism threatens democracy by replacing true faith with a narrow view of American power — a shift that risks government overreach and harmful social hierarchies.  The Capital Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers at UW—Madison are testing psilocybin in controlled trials to treat mental health and substance use disorders after a trial on methamphetamine use showed lasting reductions in participants' use. They report that patients experience marked transformation within a single day and note that federal regulators may soon decide on clinical use for the compound.  WMTV
