  • On Wednesday, Shayna Mace from BRAVA magazine appeared on WMTV to discuss Madison-area women leading change in the business world—highlighting Victoria Thomas of Kellymoss Racing, Anne Neujahr Morrison who is redeveloping a downtown 10-acre lot, and Nikki Stafford advancing hospital expansion. Their efforts show new paths in business as they break traditional barriers.  WMTV

  • Sun Prairie native Sophie McIntosh wrote 'Road Kills,' an off-Broadway play inspired by her Wisconsin drives that mixes dark humor with serious themes of collision and responsibility + the play follows a drunken driver and a roadkill cleanup worker as they face unexpected challenges on rural highways.  Wisconsin Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Education cut nearly $11 million in grants from the Wisconsin Deafblind Technical Assistance Project, which supports 170 children with hearing and vision loss and was set to run through September 2028—federal officials cited diversity concerns for ending the funding. Wisconsin education officials plan to appeal the decision as they warn that losing the grant will harm the services vital to these vulnerable children.  Wisconsin Public Radio
  • Preliminary data shows fall freshman numbers increased by 3% across UW campuses even as a significant drop in international students kept overall enrollment nearly flat at 164,340—UW officials said visa delays and new vetting measures likely contributed to the decline. Officials will share a full breakdown during the official count on Sept. 15, and some campuses are already reporting continued growth.  Wisconsin Public Radio
  • UW-Madison professor Allison Daminger has released research that shows women do most of the thinking work needed to run a home—studies of over 80 couples show that even when other chores are shared, planning and decision making are still mostly done by women.   • The City of Madison will transform intersections on W. Dayton Street from September 15 to 19 by installing vibrant asphalt art—designed by local artist Bernie Witzack—to narrow travel lanes and slow traffic for safer crossings. Traffic delays will occur as intersections at W. Dayton and N. Bedford Streets and W. Dayton and Marion Streets are closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with streets reopening on September 19 at 4 p.m.  WKOW
  • Sen. Kelda Roys proposed a plan that would let Wisconsinites with suicidal thoughts add themselves to a 'do not sell' list that bars gun purchases—aiming to reduce fatal suicide attempts, with similar programs operating in Utah, Virginia, and Washington.  Wisconsin Public Radio
  • The City of Madison postponed the storm sewer replacement on Capital City Trail until Sept. 29—officials said the delay will reduce path closures as planning for additional path clearing and signing is underway.  WISC-TV
  • The City of Madison will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony today at 2:30 p.m. for the new Capitol Centre Park at the Madison Senior Center on W Mifflin Street—Mayor Rhodes-Conway, Alder Verveer and Paul Quinn will speak.  WISC-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new virtual nursing program at the NICU at American Family Children's Hospital is helping new nurses adjust to a challenging work environment. The program, which uses tablets and secure laptops during two six-hour shifts each week, has reduced nurse turnover to zero.  WKOW
  • Madison police and fire departments are partnering with the American Red Cross to host the 14th annual ‘Never Forget’ Blood Drive at the Goodman Community Center today from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.—a friendly contest between first responders. At 8:00 a.m. today, Fire Fighters Local 311 will hold a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at Fire Station 14—with local officials and the Honor Guard giving speeches to honor those lost.  WMTV
  • The Madison Area Promise Walk for Preeclampsia will take place Saturday in Madison to raise funds and awareness for a high blood pressure condition that affects mothers during and after pregnancy — organizers say the event will help families learn the warning signs.  WKOW
