CRIME NEWS

  • Madison police arrested a man late Wednesday after he rear-ended a woman's car near Femrite Drive and Dairy Drive—he then used a hammer to break the passenger side window following a money dispute.  FOX 47
  • Madison police arrested Sheron Howell on Wednesday night for disorderly conduct while armed, criminal damage to property while armed, and a probation hold after a money dispute turned violent when she rear-ended a car and used a hammer to shatter its window near Brooks Street — officers arrived at 10:51 p.m. at Femrite Drive and Dairy Drive.  WKOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city said the demolition of a 12-story building on West Wilson Street has broken rules since late 2023, while developer Terrence Wall claims city actions like blocking access and installing a bike path have delayed his plan to remove the remaining parking garage. Wall awaits a permit to safely begin work+ the dispute continues with both sides blaming each other for the delays.  Wisconsin State Journal
  • A Dane County Board vote was delayed after supervisors toured a Blue Mounds dog breeder on Wednesday and a state enforcement hearing was postponed; the vote on Resolution 119—which calls for revoking the facility’s license and placing over 2,000 dogs into protective custody—is now set for October 23. Residents testified strongly about the treatment of the dogs and the state’s agriculture department postponed its enforcement conference with Ridglan Farms until September 22.  WMTV
  • Bradyn’s Law passed the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety in a unanimous vote Thursday afternoon—named in honor of Braden Bohn and intended to penalize sextortion crimes targeting teens. The law will head to the Senate floor for an October session.  WMTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Thursday, lawmakers and union leaders gathered at the Capitol to support MercyHealth East Clinic nurses who had been on strike since July 2 for better working conditions, pay and benefits—labor leaders said management refused to address safety issues.  WMTV

  • More than 2,500 triathletes are set to compete in Madison this weekend—IRONMAN 70.3 will take place Saturday while the full IRONMAN is scheduled for Sunday. IRONMAN Village opened Thursday at Monona Terrace to welcome athletes and prepare the local area for the events.  WKOW
