CRIME NEWS

  • Police are investigating a shooting that occurred just after 1 a.m. on King Street near the State Capitol when a bullet hit a window in an occupied business without injuring anyone—witnesses reported a speeding vehicle leaving the scene and no arrests have been made.  WKOW

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday morning, hundreds gathered at McPike Park to run and walk for Strides for Africa as the event aimed to raise $60,000 for clean water and sanitation facilities in Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania, Sierra Leone and Liberia. The fest also featured African food, clothing, art and activities — a celebration of African culture and traditions.  WMTV
  • Before the 17th annual Agora Art Fair started in Fitchburg, people arrived early to view work from more than 100 Wisconsin-based artists. The event offers a mix of ceramics, photos, jewelry, and fiber art, along with a new mosaic cultural program and live performances—flamenco dancing and stilt walking among them.  WMTV
  • At McPike Park on Saturday, Africa Fest celebrated its 35th anniversary—heavy rain delayed the start for about one hour but did not stop attendees from enjoying live music, vendors and a fashion show that showcased diverse African cultures.  WISC-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over 400 backpacks with school supplies were given to Madison and Monona children on Saturday by End Time Ministries International at their new Monona grounds—helping local students prepare for the school year. The event was held in partnership with Families Back to the Table Inc. and Warming Hands Residential Services LLC.  WKOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wisconsin Emergency Management has helped with recovery after historic flooding, following a state emergency declared last week and damage assessments that began on August 12. The governor’s office will submit a formal request for federal assistance once the assessments finish—unlocking funds for long-term recovery.  WISC-TV
  • The Rock Co. Sheriff's Office said Saturday that a slow-no-wake restriction is in effect on the Rock River in Afton because US Geological Survey gauges recorded a water level of 6.61 feet—officials said boaters must operate as slowly as possible to maintain steering control.  WMTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Madison’s women’s soccer team will take the field in May 2026 in the USL W League—delayed because improvements at Breese Stevens Field did not happen. Big Top Events LLC, the owner of Forward Madison, will run the team under a temporary name while it looks for a permanent one.  WISC-TV
  • Five former players filed a lawsuit against ex-women’s basketball coach Marissa Moseley, saying she hurt them with one-on-one meetings—one player said she was left alone during a mental health event while Moseley threatened to call the police. The suit says Moseley also warned players about scholarships and game time, and that university officials were involved when players left the team.  WISC-TV
