- ➤ Yesterday, GiGi’s Playhouse Madison received a nearly $90,000 grant from 100 Men of Dane County to boost its capital campaign. The nonprofit — which is 99% volunteer-run — plans to use the funds along with matching support from a family foundation to create a permanent home for people with Down syndrome. WMTV
- ➤ The Madison Black Chamber of Commerce announced the $5 Food Taste Jamboree will be held on Aug. 17 at the Madison Labor Temple from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.—after severe weather postponed the event last Sunday. The rescheduled event will feature dishes from Black-owned restaurants and serve as the wrap-up of Madison Black Restaurant Week. WISC-TV

- ➤ A 24-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night at Tenney Park Beach after he allegedly pulled a 40-caliber handgun and threatened to shoot partygoers at a birthday party; police seized cocaine, marijuana, and packaging materials (linked to drug distribution) and the suspect now faces multiple charges. WISC-TV
- ➤ A 24-year-old man was arrested by Madison Police on Wednesday at Tenney Beach Shelter after drawing a loaded handgun during a birthday party when a dispute escalated—threatening to shoot intervening adults and causing panic among partygoers. WMTV

- ➤ WMTV 15 News has earned two National Murrow Awards — one for its Breaking News coverage of the Abundant Life Christian School shooting and one for its Digital reporting on a Wisconsin kayaker who allegedly faked his own death. The awards will be presented at a gala on October 13 in New York City. WMTV

- ➤ Educators met in Madison this week to update Wisconsin’s school report card system first used in 2012—efforts focused on adjusting cut scores to better match current student growth. The new recommendations were submitted to Superintendent Underly and were applied beginning with the 2024-25 report cards, so parents should not expect drastic changes. Wisconsin Public Radio

- ➤ Scientists at UW Extension and the DNR found invasive Japanese stiltgrass covering a woodland near Beloit in Rock County last month — the invasive plant can increase fire risks and lower wildlife habitat, so they are asking woodland owners in Rock, Grant, Lafayette, Green, Walworth and Kenosha counties to check their land and report any sightings.
