  • In Middleton, hundreds gathered indoors at Capital Brewery on Sunday to raise over $115K for pancreatic cancer research through the UW Carbone Cancer Center’s Pancreas Cancer Task Force + the event stressed the need for early detection and better treatments.  WMTV
  • Jessa Nicholson Goetz, a noted criminal defense attorney, died on Tuesday in her Middleton home—friends said a sudden medical issue caused her death. She was 42 and had long supported reforms in the criminal justice system.  WISC-TV

  • The Madison Fire Department is investigating an underground electrical fire coming from a manhole on West Washington Avenue — safety perimeters have been set between West Washington and West Mifflin Streets and Henry and Broom Streets as residents face potential power outages.  WKOW
  • The Madison Fire Department responded to reports of blown manhole covers and black smoke from underground on Sunday afternoon and, with Madison Gas and Electric, set up a safety perimeter from West Washington to West Mifflin Streets and Henry to Broom Streets—residents between West Washington and Langdon Streets and Broom and Fairchild Streets may face power outages as crews work to resolve the emergency.  WISC-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Two people were arrested in Monona Saturday night after officers responded to a retail theft complaint and pursued a vehicle matching a given description that led to tire deflation devices being deployed, causing both the driver and passenger to flee on foot—one suspect sustained serious injuries and an officer was treated for a torn hamstring—and now face charges including felony eluding and obstructing.  WISC-TV
  • A Monona police officer and one suspect were injured during a Saturday theft investigation when officers chased two retail theft suspects by car and on foot—resulting in their arrest and additional charges.  WMTV
  • Dane County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a person found in a manure pit in Sun Prairie on Saturday — there is no threat to community safety and the Medical Examiner will release the name after notifying the next of kin.  WISC-TV

  • Two UW-Madison students started Badger Reclaim to give old dorm and apartment furniture a second life by collecting 453 items during move-out week and planning to deliver them to students in need at the end of August—meeting a practical need in our community.  WMTV
