COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Madison said that multiple downtown streets and surrounding routes will be impacted on Saturday when the Mini Marathon takes place, with a half marathon, 5K and kid’s run starting at 7 a.m., 7:15 a.m. and 10 a.m. City officials noted that local through access will be allowed along the race route—traffic controls are set to be removed as the last runners pass each location.  WMTV

  • Overnight car break-ins surged in Madison's Elvehjem and Meadowlark Drive neighborhoods as police reported that unlocked vehicles were targeted for cash, credit cards, medications, and jewelry—prompting increased patrols and urging residents to lock their cars.  WKOW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wisconsin has experienced 22 wildfire smoke alert days so far, one more than in 2023 and nearly breaking the 23-day record set in 2010, and state officials warn that more smoke will affect residents later this month—due to high pressure systems and continued wildfires in Canada.  Wisconsin Public Radio

  • Tellurian Behavioral Health will open its new center—Jake's Place—in downtown Madison in the fall to offer improved support for mental health and addiction, and former Packers stars Brett Favre and Don Majkowski shared their personal recovery experiences at a Thursday community event to stress the importance of accessible treatment.  WMTV
