  • Businesses on Madison's north and east sides are hosting the Strip Mall Carnival from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Lola's Hi/Lo Lounge (617 North Sherman Avenue) to support Clean Lakes Alliance's work in protecting local lake water quality.  WMTV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A seven-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle in Beloit around 4:51 p.m. Tuesday and died at a Madison hospital, while the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.  WISC-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Exact Sciences announced that it will lay off about 200 employees in Wisconsin — including 80 at its Madison headquarters and 120 remote workers — as it reorganizes support functions to meet growing worldwide demand. Impacted team members will receive severance and outplacement support while they remain with the company until their contracts end between September 30 and April 2026.  WMTV

  • The Madison Black Chamber of Commerce will host the 10th Annual Black Restaurant Week from Aug. 10 to 17, kicking off with a $5 Food Taste Jamboree at Warner Park on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.—offering live music, food from Black-owned restaurants, and family activities.  WISC-TV
  • Yesterday at Tenney Park, dozens gathered for the Lanterns for Peace event that marked the 80th anniversary of Hiroshima—participants crafted their own lanterns and listened to local Taiko drumming while the event called for nuclear disarmament, organized by Physicians for Social Responsibility Wisconsin.  WMTV

  • Enrollment for the Madison Metropolitan School District for the 2025-2026 school year began on August 6 and families registered online by preparing required documents—photo ID, proof of residency, and immunization records—while returning students verified their details and new families created an account as the district prepared for a staggered school start on Sept. 2 and Sept. 3.  WKOW
