- ➤ Local residents cooled off at the splash pad at McKee Farms Park during Monday’s humid weather—parents said the area is safe for young children who do not know how to swim. Some visitors added they plan to return often because the park offers fun water play for kids of all ages. WISC-TV

- ➤ A man pulled out a pocket knife when a woman did not greet him early Saturday on West Mifflin Street—police arrested the 35-year-old suspect near Capitol Square after a good Samaritan intervened. WISC-TV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than 100 waterfront property owners backed a petition filed by Madison attorney Jim Olson with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on June 12 — calling for emergency and permanent rules that require wake boat operators to decontaminate ballast systems to prevent invasive species. Some wake boat owners oppose the move — saying education and improved resources for boat cleaning should be prioritized. Wisconsin Public Radio

- ➤ State Rep. Sheila Stubbs reintroduced a bill last Friday to form a Missing and Murdered African American Women and Girls Task Force in the Department of Justice (the measure would allocate $80,200 for a full-time staff member and has bipartisan support) to address the disproportionate violence against Black women and girls in Wisconsin. - ➤ The Madison Fire Department is using a new SEEK FirePRO 300 thermal imaging camera to detect heat signatures in heavy smoke and locate potential victims during fire emergencies. More than 410 firefighters are trained on the tool and 88 crew members carry the camera on duty—improving their response and safety. WMTV
