ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A head-on crash on I-39 near mile marker 125.6 north of DeForest killed two when the compact SUV’s passenger died on scene and its driver later succumbed to injuries, plus the full-size SUV’s driver was arrested for OWI at about 12:03 a.m. today.  WKOW
  • The Wisconsin State Patrol said a wrong-way crash on I-39/90 near DeForest last Sunday claimed a second life when a 19-year-old man from Clara City died as his SUV hit another car and caught fire — the crash is still under investigation.  WMTV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new development in Fitchburg will open a four-story apartment building, Chase Bank, Crew Carwash, McDonald's and Chick-fil-A (expected by early next year) and will add new living and business options for local residents.  Wisconsin State Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A Madison teen was arrested Friday in Monona for his alleged role in a stolen vehicle pursuit after officers spotted a stolen sedan on E. Broadway, using tire deflation devices & a police K9 to capture one suspect while the driver remains at large.  WISC-TV
  • Monona police arrested 37-year-old Ricardo E. Medina for a third offense OWI on Friday after he drove nearly 100 mph along US 12 at South Towne Drive — his record showed a revoked license and two past OWI convictions, and he refused field tests before being taken to Dane County Jail.  WISC-TV
  • Monona Police searched for the stolen car driver and a passenger after a Friday night chase that began on East Broadway—where officers confirmed the car was taken from a Madison address—and ended when the vehicle hit a wooden utility pole, leading to the arrest of a 17-year-old suspect while another remains at large.  WMTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Disability Pride Madison held its annual festival on Saturday and made the event accessible for people of all abilities. Organizers said the festival built a community+ a place for anyone to feel connected.  WISC-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Michael Notaro, director of UW—Madison’s Center for Climatic Research, started free STEM camps for children with autism in Beloit, Wisconsin Dells and at Madison’s Henry Vilas Zoo to boost interest in science. Federal funding cuts reduced his grant by nearly $90,000 and he will seek new funds—possibly through the UW system—to keep the camps running.  WISC-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, Dane Executive Melissa Agard signed resolutions to expand two state parks by approving land purchases for McCarthy Youth and Conservation County Park in Sun Prairie and Babcock County Park in Dunn. The county will spend over $2 million to buy approximately 47.81 acres to extend trails and protect open spaces.  WISC-TV
  • Gov. Tony Evers granted 204 pardons on Friday (July 25th), bringing his total number of pardons to 1,640 during his time in office.  WISC-TV
