CRIME NEWS

  • The Wisconsin State Patrol identified Portage woman Noelia Martinez Avila, 30, who was arrested for allegedly driving drunk and causing a head-on crash on I-90 near DeForest over the weekend that killed an 18-year-old Minnesota teen and injured a 19-year-old man—she appeared in Dane County Court where her cash bond was set at $250,000.  WMTV

  • Governor Tony Evers announced that he will not run for reelection because he wants to focus on his family—an announcement that leaves the governor’s race wide open with many potential candidates from both parties expected to enter the contest.  Wisconsin Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • UW Health's mobile app Nexus was launched in September 2024 and has now surpassed 15,000 downloads, giving patients urgent care and emergency department locations, current wait times, and navigation help. Future updates will add features (prescription refills, virtual care) to further improve patient access to essential services.  WISC-TV
  • Operation Fresh Start, a local nonprofit, helps Madison youth facing depression, anxiety, homelessness and addiction by offering job training and support, and over 9,000 young people have benefited since 1970.
