- ➤ Madison’s River Food Pantry reached its $12 million goal for a new building and began work on a 32,500-square-foot facility at 3301 Packers Avenue that will serve more residents in need. Donations from 340 supporters helped the pantry serve over 3,500 people each week last year — and the new building will open in early 2026. WMTV

- ➤ A 44-year-old boater was found unresponsive in Lake Mendota near Gov. Nelson State Park at around 3:22 p.m. Tuesday and rescue efforts began after reports of a boating incident near Meadow Ridge Park—he was pronounced dead shortly after reaching shore. WISC-TV

- ➤ Madison police are searching for a suspect after a 30-year-old man was critically injured in a targeted shooting Tuesday around 4 a.m. outside an apartment complex on the north side as witness Brandon Rice recorded the event (and called 9-1-1) while police later detained a person of interest (from an apartment on W. Washington Avenue). WKOW

- ➤ The Disability Pride Festival will be held on Saturday, July 26 at Warner Park from noon to 5 p.m. and will honor the disability community with a parade led by the Forward Marching Band—featuring wheelchair dancing, live performances, and a drag show. WKOW

- ➤ UW-Madison professor Keith Bechtol and his team helped capture high-definition images of vibrant galaxies, asteroids and other cosmic phenomena when Chile’s Vera C. Rubin Observatory released its first survey images on June 22nd. The observatory’s 8.4-meter Simonyi Survey Telescope—equipped with the LSST Camera—began a 10-year Legacy Survey of Space and Time that will map billions of galaxies and reveal new cosmic events.
