- ➤ Gavin Thompson (23) is accused of killing 67-year-old Dorinda Segebrecht by stabbing her in Dodgeville, driving her car to Nebraska with her body, and fleeing; he was held without bond in court on Monday and his extradition hearing is postponed until Monday (July 28th) after his public defender requested a competency evaluation that the judge did not act on. - ➤ Madison police arrested a 39-year-old woman on Friday after officers rescued 14 emaciated dogs and found six dead at a home they described as horrendous—officials charged her with 14 counts of animal mistreatment. WKOW

- ➤ Dane County Executive Melissa Agard on Monday announced that a new food scrap program at Warner Park has enrolled over 1,000 homes and diverted more than 50 tons of food waste from landfills—helping lower methane emissions and create valuable compost for local use. WKOW
- ➤ Madison leaders celebrated a new initiative on Monday that changed some neighborhood speed limits from 25 mph to 20 mph as part of the Vision Zero plan to reduce deadly crashes. Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said that traffic deaths fell (from 11 fatalities in 2020 to 5 in 2024) and urged residents to pick up free yard signs to show their support. WMTV
- ➤ Madison held a virtual public meeting Monday to present phase one of the Madison LakeWay project along a 0.6-mile stretch of Lake Monona shoreline adjacent to John Nolen Drive, where officials outlined plans for a 10-foot bike lane, a 6+ foot pedestrian path, a 2-foot jogging path, 2.8 acres of Linear Park, a boardwalk with fishing areas, and new stormwater treatment.
