COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Madison bike riders gathered on Sunday for a six-mile ride from Olin Park along John Nolan Drive to raise over $15K for humanitarian aid for families in Gaza through the Middle East Children’s Alliance. The event, organized by the Madison-Rafah Sister City Project, saw participants decorate their bikes with Palestinian symbols + flags to show their support.  WMTV
  • Thirty-one Pi Kappa Phi fraternity members biked from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. to raise awareness for disabilities by visiting local organizations—stopping for friendship visits and service projects. They reached Madison last Saturday after riding about 75 miles each day on their Journey of Hope organized by The Ability Experience.  WMTV
  • Yahara House will get a free interior makeover from FLOOR360 in September—updating its first and third floors to refresh the historic space and support mental health—and volunteers and donations are needed to help complete the project.  WMTV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Sunday, a head-on crash on I-39 near DeForest left one person dead and five injured when an SUV believed to be driving the wrong way struck another vehicle and a sedan later collided with a parked police car—resulting in two drivers being arrested for OWI.  WMTV

CRIME NEWS

  • Paul Ferrall, a 62-year-old man with health issues, went missing on July 19 from his group home on Larry Lane and his family is asking landowners near Burke to check wooded areas, garages and sheds for any sign of him—hoping someone can help bring him home. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office re-searched nearby fields with drones, ATVs and dogs, but no new clues have been found, leaving the family without closure after a year.  WMTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Coldplay performed on Saturday at Camp Randall, turning the space yellow as streets were closed and police managed traffic—fans adapted with creative parking and a lively mood. It was the second major concert at the venue since the Rolling Stones played in 1997.  Wisconsin State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from Milwaukee and Dane County represented Wisconsin at the NAACP ACT-SO competition in Charlotte—competing in categories like painting, oratory, and written poetry. Although they did not secure a gold medal, they returned home inspired and are preparing for next year's event in Chicago.  The Madison Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • UW-Health Carbone Cancer Center held its second annual celebration on Saturday to honor doctors, nurses, caretakers, donors, and recipients of stem cell transplants and CAR T-cell therapy. Guests shared treatment stories, enjoyed a catered brunch and ice cream, and were reminded that one registered donor can make a life-saving difference.  WMTV
