- ➤ Officers from Amigos en Azul assisted over 30 families at a car seat clinic in Madison this week—inspecting 45 car seats, ensuring proper installation, and providing free seats when needed. The event also offered more than 15 resource tables, free food, and kid-friendly activities with support from local law enforcement and community partners. City of Madison

- ➤ Three masked teens were arrested early Wednesday for beating a man on North Lake Street and University Ave after he refused to give up his bag of food—officers reported that two of the teens tried to flee but were quickly detained. WISC-TV
- ➤ One year ago, 62-year-old Madison man Paul H. Ferrall (5'11" and 165 lbs) was seen on foot near Larry Lane in the Town of Burke while wearing blue jeans and a multi-colored sweater, and authorities continue to seek new leads in his disappearance. WKOW

- ➤ Overture Hall in Madison will host an added matinee of Wicked on Thursday, July 24 at 1 p.m. running through Sunday, July 27 — the extra show comes after a water outage cancelled Tuesday's performance and ticket-holders have been automatically transferred or may request changes if needed. WKOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Madison and UW-Madison Applied Population Lab updated the Neighborhood Indicators Project and released new data on housing, health and community safety. The 2024 update shows over 5,000 new dwelling units, a nearly $33,000 rise in owner-occupied home values and median rents of $1,464 per month while the Planning Division is offering free workshops for local groups. - ➤ The City of Madison has launched Phase 2 of the 20 is Plenty program to lower residential speed limits from 25 mph to 20 mph on neighborhood streets and install new signs by August—this effort is part of the Vision Zero plan to improve safety. Mayor Rhodes-Conway will hold a press conference on July 21 at 9:00 a.m. at Hammersley Park, and free yard signs in four languages will be available for those wishing to show support. City of Madison
- ➤ Starting next fall, states must pay 75% of SNAP admin costs under a new federal law that shifts more costs onto them — and from fall 2027, some states will also share benefit costs based on error rates. In Wisconsin, where 700,000 people get FoodShare help, state officials say higher costs may lead to stricter rules and less food access. Wisconsin Public Radio
