- ➤ The Badger Prairie Needs Network Food Pantry helps up to 700 Dane County households each week by providing fresh, frozen, and shelf-stable groceries as rising rents and food costs make meals harder to afford. The volunteer-run pantry is open on select weekdays and Saturday—welcoming any Dane County resident with a valid ID and relying on donations and volunteers to meet local needs. WISC-TV

- ➤ Gregory P. Robinson, a Madison man, was found guilty in federal court of selling cocaine, heroin and fentanyl after evidence from undercover sales and a June 25, 2024 hotel search, and he will be sentenced on October 2. WMTV
- ➤ A federal appeals court sided with a woman who accused former Badger football star Quintez Cephus of sexual assault by overturning a lower court’s dismissal of her 2019 lawsuit against UW-Madison—sending the case back for trial. Wisconsin Public Radio
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Madison City Council voted 17—3 to let the first phase of the Madison LakeWay project along Lake Monona proceed without a citywide referendum after nearly three hours of public comment. The measure exempts only this phase, and a virtual meeting is set for July 21 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss design plans while construction bids are expected in fall with work slated to begin the following year. - ➤ Gov. Tony Evers raised about $760,000 from January through June—far below the nearly $5.3 million he raised during his last campaign—and he reported having about $2 million in the bank while he has yet to confirm if he will run again after finishing work on the state budget. Meanwhile, GOP candidate Bill Berrien launched his bid on July 9 with a $1 million boost from the Winklevoss twins—while Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann reported raising $424,144 since May—with both parties showing nearly equal overall fundraising totals this year. - ➤ The Madison Common Council unanimously approved three housing proposals on Tuesday to boost homeownership by streamlining downtown zoning rules—allowing property owners to split deep residential lots for backyard housing and permitting two housing units on any residential lot for duplex creation. Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said the changes will simplify permitting for small and mid-sized downtown buildings and expand housing options. WISC-TV

- ➤ Special Olympics Wisconsin joined an international effort called the Rosemary Collaboratory to improve health care access for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities & held a call with policy makers on Tuesday to discuss plans to boost medical training, Medicaid rates and social services for roughly 42,000 state residents.
