CRIME NEWS

  • Paul Van Duyne Jr. waived his right to a preliminary hearing for his alleged cyanide poisoning plot against two women and was ordered to stand trial in Rock County Court on Tuesday — his arraignment is set for July 29 and his alleged accomplice Andrea Whitaker is scheduled to appear on Aug 5.  WMTV

  • Residents at Tuesday's common council meeting expressed worry after a 17-3 vote exempted only phase one of the Madison LakeWay Project from a referendum on lakefront parks. A public meeting next week will show design plans and project updates so residents can learn more before more work begins.  WMTV
  • The Madison Common Council approved three housing proposals Tuesday night that will reshape city housing by allowing duplexes and two-unit homes in every residential zone — changes that simplify lot division and zoning codes — and are part of the Housing Forward initiative to boost affordable housing options.  WKOW

  • Public Health Madison & Dane County issued a health alert after five overdose calls were confirmed from Sunday to Monday, and officials suspect changes in street drugs may be contributing to the spike. The alert advised residents, first responders, and healthcare providers to be vigilant and take safety steps such as testing drugs for fentanyl and carrying Narcan.  WKOW
