COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Dane County Fair will be held at Alliant Energy Center from July 17 to 20 with daily gate hours from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Carnival hours will be July 17 from 1 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and July 18 to 20 from noon to 10:30 p.m. — youth under 18 must be with an adult after 7 p.m.  FOX 47
  • Madison will host its first Spirit Walk on July 12 to raise funds for the Tomacaya Water Project led by UW-Madison’s Engineers Without Borders — the event organized by Mundo Esperanza will take participants on a 20-mile route that begins at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 8 a.m., includes a lunch break at Aldo Leopold Sun Shelter, and ends at Lake Farm County Park while passing natural sites like the UW-Madison Arboretum and Bear Mound.  WISC-TV
  • The Dane County Farmers’ Market will be held at Breese Stevens Field on Saturday, July 12 from 7 a.m. to noon, moving from Capitol Square as the Art Fair takes its place. Vendors will offer vegetables, cheese, meat, flowers and baked goods with streets reserved near the field — SNAP/EBT services remain available.  WMTV
  • Maxwell Street Days returns next week to downtown with the 48th annual sale along State Street running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 17 to 19 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 20—businesses will offer discounts, live music and outdoor café dining.  WMTV

  • A Madison man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for an attempted robbery that led to another man’s death.  WKOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Madison libraries are hosting free summer programs to help kids build literacy skills as screen time increases — the programs offer interactive reading sessions and art classes that run until August.  WMTV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Tony Evers signed a $111 billion budget today that left out funding for the Warren Knowles-Gaylord Nelson Stewardship Program — a key initiative that helps the DNR buy land for conservation and outdoor recreation. Lawmakers have proposed alternative plans to reauthorize the program and address PFAS cleanup funding as conservation advocates warn delays could harm future projects.  Wisconsin Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Madison Streets and Urban Forestry Division announced that free mulch will be available at 121 E. Olin Avenue until Friday, July 11th while supplies last. Starting Monday, July 14th, free mulch will be offered at Sycamore and South Point drop-off sites—this change is due to an upcoming construction project at the Olin location.  City of Madison

  • Dr. Shilagh Mirgain (UW Health) told WMTV on Monday that taking a vacation can help lower stress, support heart health, boost mental health, and improve relationships. She added that if travel is not possible, trying a new local restaurant may help shift your mood (a simple way to relax).  WMTV
