  • Wisconsinites marched to the State Capitol on Saturday, June 28 to demand queer liberation and call on local officials to address issues like education, housing, healthcare and economic justice—marking the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.  WKOW
  • Residents near Camp Randall Stadium earned extra money last weekend by renting out parking spaces on their lawns during Morgan Wallen’s concert—charging up to $100 per spot to help with bills and college costs.   • On Saturday afternoon, three Civil War figures were honored at Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison when the Daughters of Union Veterans Civil War placed grave markers to remember the service of Colonel John Wayles Jefferson, Private Beverly Frederick Jefferson and Captain Albert T. Pearson—Jefferson’s grandson-in-law. This ceremony brought together local residents to recognize both the military history and familial ties to President Jefferson.  WMTV

  • Madison Police investigated a multi-vehicle crash on the westbound Beltline Highway near Fish Hatchery Road just after 3 p.m. Saturday—Wisconsin Department of Transportation closed two right lanes and reported severe delays beginning at Todd Drive, and no one was injured.  WMTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, the Joint Finance Committee ended a delayed session by releasing $9 million for literacy coaching from Act 20 while leaving big issues—Medicaid, university, and childcare funding—for later debate. Lawmakers from both parties traded blame over the holdup and pointed to unresolved conservation and safety programs that will be addressed in future sessions.  Wisconsin Public Radio
  • City staff introduced three design concepts this week for an expanded pedestrian plaza at the top of State Street—ideas that aim to refresh the fast-changing western corner of Capitol Square.  Wisconsin State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 21st Annual Midwest Log Rolling Championship took place at Wingra Park on Saturday with thousands of people gathering to support the Huntington's Disease Society of America's Wisconsin Chapter. Event director Shawna Verstegen said the contest, which pits two log rollers head-to-head (a sport rooted in over 200 years of lumberjack tradition), raised money from raffles, donations, auctions and athlete registration to help affected families.  WKOW
