- ➤ Dane County prosecutors allege that Paul Van Duyne and Andrea Whitaker plotted to poison his ex girlfriends with cyanide, prompting multiple searches across Madison — Whitaker faces a harboring charge with a $750,000 bond and an initial appearance scheduled for Friday. WMTV
- ➤ A state agency in Madison said it created new crypto guidance to help police and investors fight a surge in crypto fraud scams in Wisconsin — officials reported. WISC-TV
- ➤ A Fitchburg resident jumped into an unoccupied vehicle at a fast food restaurant during a chase near Eggiman Road and later hid in a boat behind a building in Madison—police credited community tips and cooperation between Fitchburg and Madison officers—for charges of vehicle theft, eluding officers, resisting arrest and a probation violation, and the 28-year-old was taken to Dane County Jail. - ➤ A former vice president at Goodman Community Center, Dewayne Powell, 42, accused of embezzling over $600,000 for gambling and personal expenses, stood mute at his arraignment yesterday—entering a not guilty plea—and will next appear in court for a pre-trial conference on Aug. 11. WISC-TV

- ➤ Officials at The Center for Black Excellence and Culture announced today that they raised $31 million in a capital campaign that will let the building open debt-free. More than 300 Black donors and a group of over 1,200 community members and government agencies backed the effort—bringing strong local support—and construction is set to finish in late 2025. WMTV

- ➤ The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has launched a new interactive tool that shows how 168 community learning centers help students learn outside regular school hours — the tool shows that 62% of students improved attendance, 63% increased focus in class, and 50% of middle and high school students raised their grades using funds from competitive grants.
