COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Hinchley’s Dairy Farm on Saturday, residents attended a farmhouse breakfast where Gwen Mahoney was crowned Dane County’s Fairest of the Fair and spoke with attendees about the county fair set to begin on July 17th — she said the event brings together urban and rural communities.  WMTV
  • On Saturday, nonprofit Take a Vet Fishing held an event at the McFarland VFW where veterans received lunch and later fished at several Madison-area lakes (the event started in Madison in 2012). The effort also aimed to connect veterans with treatment for post-traumatic stress (organizers say the gathering helped veterans share similar experiences).  WMTV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities are investigating the death of a 21-year-old man who fell from rocks at Ledge County Park on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., and first responders used CPR & AED to try to revive him before he was pronounced dead at the scene.  WKOW
  • On Saturday, firefighters responded to a fire at a northside condo on Maple Wood Lane that displaced one resident, transported another with minor injuries, and killed two cats—an investigation into the cause is underway as the American Red Cross helps the displaced person.  WMTV

CRIME NEWS

  • Public Health Madison and Dane County is seeking information about a brown, medium-sized mixed breed dog that bit a woman on her face at Quann Dog Park on Friday morning (the bite occurred around 10:30 a.m. and the dog’s owner is a white man in his 50s) as the victim may need rabies shots if the dog is not located.  WKOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters who have not cast a ballot in four years will receive an Official Voter Registration Notice postcard from the Wisconsin Elections Commission—registered voters must sign the postcard by July 15 to confirm their address or face deactivation on July 31.  WMTV
  • Madison seniors in their 80s and 90s held a protection rally today at Tree Lane and Gammon Road as part of the national No Kings Day of Defiance to defend Social Security + Medicare, Medicaid and SNAP. Organizers, including former Planned Parenthood employee Phyllis Stokes and retired teacher Mary Ann Berger, said the local event was spurred by transportation challenges for older neighbors at larger rallies.  WKOW
