ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Madison police rescued a woman after her car crashed into a retention pond Sunday morning when bystanders helped with a water rescue disc—Fire and EMS transported her to a local hospital.  WMTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the City of Madison Arts Commission installed Preserve, a temporary art installation by the Preserve Collaborative at the UW-Madison Arboretum—it is free during regular hours until September 27. The work uses simple images to show a clear link between nature and how we care for our land.  City of Madison

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Dane County tourism spending reached a record $1.55 billion in 2024 with a 3.8% increase, according to Destination Madison. The growth was driven by national media exposure and more conference bookings despite the absence of the CrossFit Games—Ellie Chin highlighted that Madison’s varied dining options helped boost visitor spending.  WKOW
  • State officials said Wisconsin set record tourism numbers for 2024 as it made $25.8 billion from over 114.4 million visitors—this marks the third straight record year for the state. In Madison, Janesville and Wisconsin Dells, local economies grew with record visitor spending and $1.7 billion returning to local services—helping create more jobs and funds for community needs.  WMTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Madison will use electronic poll books—known as Badger Books—for the special election on June 17 to reduce human error, with the system lent by Sun Prairie and backed up by paper poll books if needed. A public demonstration to show how the system works will take place on June 14 at 3:30 p.m. at 2713 E. Washington Ave.  WISC-TV
  • Dane County finished the Highway M construction project Tuesday morning between Middleton and Westport—upgrading the road to expand capacity, improve bike and pedestrian access and enhance safety measures. County officials said the project will help families, workers and businesses in one of the county’s fastest growing areas.  WISC-TV
  • The City of Madison invites residents to review the draft 2025-2030 Park and Open Space Plan which shapes policies and funds city park projects. Residents can view the plan and meet with staff at the Parks Lakeside Offices (330 E. Lakeside St.) on Thursday, June 26 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.  City of Madison
  • Dane County law enforcement agencies will boost patrols for two weeks starting Friday to lower pedestrian crashes after data showed 138 incidents in 2024 and a fatal crash near Northport Drive—Kennedy Road. The extra patrols will cover Madison and nearby areas such as Sun Prairie, Middleton, Monona, Fitchburg and Waunakee to hold both drivers and pedestrians accountable.  WMTV
