  • At a Wear Orange Weekend event held Saturday at First United Methodist Church, retired Lutheran Pastor and blacksmith Jeff Wild collected unwanted firearms to transform them into garden tools such as a small pickaxe — also called a mattok. Organizers said the event aimed to reduce gun violence and rewarded participants with gift cards.  WKOW
  • Dogs and community members gathered at Essen Haus Bar — Grill in Madison to raise funds for Underdog Pet Rescue on Saturday. The event featured food, music and a silent auction while offering a dog pool, bounce house and meet-and-greet opportunities with adoptable dogs.  WKOW
  • Guns to Gardens is turning old guns into garden tools at First United Methodist Church in Madison on Saturday + the group says the work helps people hurt by gun violence and will soon expand to rural parts of Southern Wisconsin.  WMTV

  • Local farmers brought cows to Capitol Square on Saturday to celebrate National Dairy Month—an event called Cows on the Concourse that showcased a digital twist on farming technology. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Saturday, Dane County and City of Madison Parks waived permits for disc golf courses, dog parks, equestrian trails, boat launches and mountain biking in select parks including CamRock County Park, Badger Prairie County Park and Capital City State Trail while offering free access to Tenney Locks from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Today, fees remain waived at Tenney Locks until 10 p.m. as part of Wisconsin DNR’s Free Fun Weekend.  WMTV
  • The city mailed property assessments on May 16 and required appeals by June 2; during a video call, City Assessor Michelle Drea and business systems manager Megan Lukens explained that assessors use permits and past sales data to determine home values. The interview clarified that an appeal may sustain, increase, or decrease an assessment and advised homeowners to use the online data for reliable comparisons.  Isthmus
