- ➤ On May 31, community members gathered at Warm Belly Farms in Cottage Grove to raise funds for Samy—an ALCS school shooting survivor who remains in critical condition at a local hospital. - ➤ A Madison man, Derrick D. Allen, 48, was hit by a vehicle near Kennedy Road and Northport Drive at 5:24 p.m. on Monday and died at a local hospital on Wednesday—police say the driver stayed at the scene and the case is under investigation. WISC-TV
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Madison's smallest bookstore, Madison Paperbacks, moved from its Milwaukee Street location to a 400-square-foot space at 2716 Atwood Avenue (across from A Room of One's Own) and now sells used paperbacks while showcasing a treasured wooden desk from Paul’s Book Store that marks nearly 70 years of local history. Owner Todd Henderson opened the shop on Wednesdays and Saturdays to better serve his neighborhood customers. Wisconsin State Journal

- ➤ Brad Stoll has been hired by the Verona Area School District as the new school resource officer who will serve for the 2025-26 school year. He is a Whitewater native who earned his degree in criminal justice from UW-Eau Claire and said he looks forward to keeping students safe. WISC-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials and experienced volunteers are stressing the importance of safety and education as ATVs and UTVs grow in popularity — safety rules and proper gear are key to preventing injuries. They urge that children use smaller, manageable vehicles while anyone born on or after January 1st, 1988 must complete a safety course — a rule designed to reduce preventable crashes. WMTV

- ➤ UnityPoint Health—Meriter reached a tentative agreement with SEIU Wisconsin on Saturday through a mediator and nurses resumed work today as the strike ended. Union members will vote on the deal while SEIU will hold a press conference at 4:00 p.m. to update the public. WMTV
- ➤ Today, UnityPoint Health Meriter nurses ended a five-day strike and held a press conference at 6:30 a.m. to update on an agreement that brings wage increases, safety measures, and staffing improvements—an effort highlighted by remarks from Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway before the nurses returned to work.
