ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A small fire at a senior living facility on Jupiter Drive near I-39/90 was quickly put out by its sprinkler system at about 10:22 p.m. Wednesday night—one resident was taken to a hospital in stable condition while nearby apartments suffered minor water damage and staff arranged overnight lodging. - ➤ On May 27, a 6-year-old boy shot himself on the far east side of Madison — he is in critical condition at a local hospital. WISC-TV
- ➤ A 48-year-old man was critically injured after he was struck by a vehicle near Kennedy Road — Northport Drive just before 5:30 p.m. Monday and the driver remained at the scene while cooperating with police. WMTV

- ➤ Realta Fusion, a UW-Madison startup, raised $36 million and will use the funds to design a prototype fusion reactor called Anvil by 2028—its approach uses high-temperature superconducting magnets in a magnetic mirror design to stabilize plasma. - ➤ Today, a new exhibit at US Bank Plaza in downtown Madison showcases Wisconsin's hidden hip-hop history and community impact, curated by local leaders Gregory Doby and Menkhu Meri Maat. - ➤ Dane County announced a free Food Scrap Stop program that will launch on June 1 with 24/7 drop-off kiosks at Warner Park and Henry Vilas Zoo—staff will help residents register online for access codes and provide free collection buckets—. The initiative will reduce landfill waste by turning food scraps into compost. WKOW
- ➤ City of Madison will resume free food scraps recycling at the South Madison Farmers' Market on June 3 at 1602 S Park Street, with drop-off times from 2-6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays until October 28—residents are urged to bring items such as coffee grounds, eggshells, and raw fruits and vegetables as the city aims to compost 40,000 lbs of waste. - ➤ On Thursday, a Rock County deer farm reported that a 5½-year-old doe tested positive for chronic wasting disease, confirmed by the National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa.
