- ➤ Madison streets will be closed Saturday, May 24 for the Twilight 5K starting at 7 p.m. on the 700 block of State St and looping through the UW campus, and Sunday, May 25 for 10K and half marathon races beginning at 7 a.m. on the same route; detours will affect some Metro routes + travel lanes will reopen once the last runner passes. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation honored the team that restored the Royal Thai Pavilion at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. The City of Madison Engineering Division began work on the project in 2021 and completed the $1.6 million restoration last year—preserving the pavilion’s Thai clay tiles, decorative finishes and mosaics. - ➤ Dane County has only 110 licensed foster homes compared to 168 before and about 190 minors, including many teenagers and sibling groups, are in care—County Executive Melissa Agard is urging residents to become foster parents during National Foster Care Month. The county hopes more caring families will help provide safe homes for these children. FOX 47
- ➤ The DNR reminds people to be safe on trails and water this Memorial Day weekend by wearing helmets on ATVs and UTVs and life jackets on boats. Jake Holsclaw said operators will need to ride sober and check local rules, noting that 40 people died last year in ATV and UTV crashes. WKOW

- ➤ Hundreds of nurses at Meriter Hospital in Madison will strike starting at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 27 because contract talks did not address staffing and patient safety concerns. Hospital leaders say they will continue patient care and meet to discuss contracts on May 29—while nurses plan to end the strike on June 1. Wisconsin Public Radio
