  • The inaugural Paddle Battle pickleball tournament took place Sunday at Phoebe Bakken Memorial Park in Cottage Grove as 40 teams raised money for after school and summer camp programs by the Wisconsin Youth Company (an event meant to boost awareness of childcare for working parents). Wisconsin Youth Company CEO Rebecca Carlin said organizers will expand the tournament next year.  WMTV
  • Local anglers fished on Saturday in Madison to help raise funds for the American Family Children's Hospital plus the Carbone Cancer Center during the Casting for Kids event, a seventh-year fundraiser that raised over $750,000 with a day of fishing, dinner and auction.  WKOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Sun Prairie Police Department launched the Click It or Ticket campaign, which will run until June 1 to boost seat belt use after fewer drivers buckled up in 2024 despite an 88% compliance rate. Officers plan to enforce seat belt laws at night — when more unrestrained fatalities occur — as traffic increases during the Memorial Day weekend.  WKOW

  • Mark Benson from Yahara House said the mental health program helped him recover from drug abuse that triggered his schizophrenia over twenty years ago — it gave him routine and enabled him to mentor others as he rebuilt his life.  WMTV

  • Dairyland Sports hosted its 8th annual Dairyland Games on Saturday — the only event in the state that lets athletes with physical disabilities qualify for the Hartford Nationals. Seventy athletes from six or seven Midwest states competed at the event.  WKOW
