COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local fishermen sailed the waters Saturday as part of the Casting for Kids event to raise funds for children, supporting (American Family Children's Hospital and the Carbone Cancer Center) in Madison; the event, now in its seventh year, has raised over $750,000.  WKOW

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A kayak capsized on Lake Monona Friday night, leaving one kayaker missing after two others reached shore and were taken to hospital—crews searched using lights and drones on Saturday amid fading daylight and large waves.  WISC-TV
  • Crews searched Saturday morning for one person missing after a sailboat capsized on Lake Monona Friday night—rough weather and fading light complicated the rescue.  WISC-TV
  • Rescue teams responded after a kayak capsized on Lake Monona late Friday and rescued two people while a third remains missing—authorities including the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin DNR continued searching Saturday morning amid poor weather conditions.  WMTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Madison Public Library celebrated its 150th anniversary on Saturday with a parade and tours — the festivities ended at noon while visitors stayed to browse the library.  Wisconsin State Journal
  • Last Saturday, several organizations held an event at Madison College's Truax campus to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander month with cultural performances. Michael Chow of AMASIAN said the event gave the local community a chance to connect and share their heritage—hoping to inspire more people to learn about Asian-American culture.  WKOW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Taylor Koss, a dedicated track and field athlete from Madison, is training alone for his fourth Deaflympics in Tokyo this November and has represented Team USA three times since 2013. He works for the Madison Metropolitan School District and hosted a fundraiser at the Madison Association of the Deaf to cover travel, lodging, meals, and insurance—he must raise funds as USA Deaf Track and Field receives no government funding.  WMTV
