- ➤ Wisconsin contractors warn Madison homeowners not to hire out-of-town firms after recent storms because these companies often offer quick fixes without proper licensing (state license and training proof) and then vanish. Homeowners are urged to call local, licensed contractors before signing any contracts. WMTV
- ➤ Curd Fest will return to Breese Stevens Field on Sept. 6 with a variety of cheese curd dishes and family fun. Free entry runs from 3 to 6 p.m.—early entry $5 tickets and VIP passes offering 90 minutes of access that include a Bourbon and Cheese pairing experience from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Forward Club went on sale on May 16. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Madison police arrested a 39-year-old man early Friday morning—shortly after 2:20 a.m.—when he showed a knife and demanded entry into a bar on the 1500 block of Williamson Street, with officers recovering stolen items and a folding knife from him; he now faces charges including disorderly conduct while armed, possession of a concealed knife as a felon, obstruction and a probation hold while he is held in Dane County Jail. - ➤ On May 11, a driver left the road on W. Washington Ave at Broom St and hit two people, one with minor injuries and the other hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries—police arrested the driver for operating while intoxicated and reckless endangerment while continuing their investigation. - ➤ Madison's Wisconsin 48 film competition invites local filmmakers to create a short film in just two days before its world premiere on May 18 at Marcus Point Cinema on the west side—tickets for Group B are already sold out. The winning film will compete in an international contest and viewers can also catch an online screening on May 21. WISC-TV

- ➤ Dane County is now halfway through a $15 million effort to dredge the Yahara River as it finishes phase three between Lower Mud Lake and Lake Kegonsa—officials say removing sediment will improve water flow and lower flood risks. The county will continue with the remaining phases to clear more sediment from the river for better drainage during heavy rains. The Capital Times

- ➤ This spring, Wisconsin collected 56,818 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs on Drug Take Back Day, ranking first in the nation. Attorney General Josh Kaul praised state agencies—who have helped safely dispose of nearly 1.37 million pounds since 2010—for their role in the program. WKOW
