  • GiGi's Playhouse in Madison received over $108,000 in donations after Alter Metal Recycling raised $54,000 in its April Go Green for the Green campaign + matched the region's total dollar-for-dollar, supporting individuals with Down syndrome and other disabilities.  WISC-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A barn fire in Fitchburg on Sunday morning at 4:37 a.m. killed 4 horses while crews from various fire departments plus police and EMS quickly contained the blaze and protected nearby properties.  WISC-TV
  • Madison fire crews responded to a cooking fire in the 7000 block of Flower Lane Saturday night that displaced one resident—firefighters quickly contained the blaze caused by unattended cooking and the occupant escaped unharmed while staying with family, with about $30,000 in damage reported.  WISC-TV
  • Columbus EMS and police arrived in the Town of York at about 1:15 p.m. Sunday to help a skydiver who landed on the ground and needed medical aid—first responders remain at the scene.  WMTV

  • Nonprofit 5 Lakes Institute announced a Midwest nuclear fusion alliance at UW-Madison on Tuesday — the group brings together nuclear engineering companies and manufacturers to link research, policy and community leaders for advancing fusion technology. CRIME NEWS

  • Madison authorities charged 42-year-old Jeffrey Rupnow with contributing to the delinquency of a child and two counts of providing a dangerous weapon to a person under 18 — charges tied to his giving his daughter access to the handgun used in the December attack at Abundant Life Christian School — and he is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.  Wisconsin State Journal

  • Two Wisconsin moms from different political views are urging lawmakers to extend Medicaid coverage for new moms from 60 days to one full year—Kateri Klingele Pinell and Ali Muldrow met through a nonpartisan group and are calling for Assembly Bill 97 to be passed before session ends.  WMTV
  • Hospitals near Highland Avenue will see extra traffic today as construction begins to replace wastewater infrastructure near UW Hospitals and Clinics—phased ramp closures will affect access until September and visitors are advised to allow extra travel time.  WMTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lydia Dutcher, a 29-year-old Sun Prairie mother, celebrated Mother’s Day cancer-free after doctors found choriocarcinoma—a rare, aggressive cancer—in her placenta following an infection after a normal pregnancy in February. She underwent five cycles of chemotherapy to treat the cancer and confirm her baby Theo was unaffected, and now she looks forward to spending time with her husband and child.  WMTV
