CRIME NEWS

  • A Madison man was arrested after police pursued his 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe on Tuesday morning near Albion because witnesses said he tried to hit two workers on Hillside Road—his vehicle was tracked by a DNR warden and stopped on I-90 near Cottage Grove while one worker was injured, and he faces charges of 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety and Disorderly Conduct.  WKOW
  • A U.S. district judge sentenced Patrick Bishop to 63 months in prison on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to trafficking heroin and illegally possessing a firearm.  WMTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UW-Madison added a new class for first-year aerospace engineering students to help them join their majors sooner and keep more female and minority students—part of a plan to meet a growing industry need—and will add more classes soon.  Wisconsin State Journal

  • Following Tuesday's spring election, seven new alders were sworn into the Madison Common Council. Carmella Glenn won District 18—replacing former alder Charles Myadze amid trial allegations—and winners in Districts 2, 6, 7, 9, 12, 15, and 16 will soon begin addressing key community issues.  FOX 47
  • A federal judge blocked immigration officials from deporting UW-Madison international student Krish Isserdasani, a 21-year-old from India — weeks away from graduation — after his F-1 visa was unexpectedly terminated this month and required him to leave by May 2. Judge William Conley issued the temporary restraining order Tuesday so that Isserdasani can finish his studies while his case is reviewed.  Wisconsin Public Radio
  • Melissa Agard was sworn in as Dane County executive on Tuesday. She won the April 1 election after serving as interim for Joe Parisi and promised to lead and listen to all in Dane County.  WKOW
  • Seven new alders were sworn in on Tuesday after the spring election to join the Madison Common Council + Carmella Glenn won District 18 while Regina Vidaver was chosen as council president. The council will move forward as legal proceedings against former alder Charles Myadze continue + the new members take charge of local governance.  WISC-TV
