- ➤ The Dane County Farmers' Market returned to Capitol Square on April 12th and attracted hundreds of city residents to shop at local food and plant booths. The outdoor season will run every Saturday until November 8th+ it marks the start of the market's weekly events+. WKOW
- ➤ The Salvation Army of Dane County is restarting an expansion project for its women's and family shelter on East Washington Avenue in Madison as demand for beds grows and approvals from the city are needed. The updated facility will improve security and space—construction may begin by next spring if funding is secured. WISC-TV
- ➤ After a lightning strike during severe weather last week, a chicken farmer with autism saw his barn and chicken coop destroyed in Cross Plains. He is rebuilding his business with local help and will resume selling eggs when new chicks grow and a new coop is ready in 4 to 5 months. WISC-TV
- ➤ The UW-Madison student chapter of Habitat for Humanity of Dane County hosted its 29th Souper Bowl to raise funds for building houses in Dane County. Soup lovers paid $25 for a meal with soup, salad, bread and dessert—while they could also enter a raffle for Brewers or Packers tickets and meet local celebrities. WKOW

- ➤ Verona High School Principal Brian Cox was named Wisconsin’s High School Principal of the Year by the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators on Friday—he will represent the state at national events including a trip to Washington D.C. WMTV

- ➤ Prosecutors in Dane County have filed far more bail jumping charges over the past two decades even while crime fell, and defense attorneys along with civil rights advocates now urge limits on the practice. Critics say that using these charges pressures defendants to plead guilty—raising concerns about fairness in the legal system. The Madison Times
- ➤ John Guequierre won District 19’s aldermanic race—ballots from Wards 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, and 96 confirmed an eight-vote lead after a recount prompted by Anthony Nino Amato. Amato waived his appeal rights so the clerk may issue Guequierre’s certificate before the appeal deadline on April 17. WISC-TV
