- ➤ Ride the Drive 2025 will take place on Sunday, August 10th when 2.38 miles of city streets, including parts of John Nolen Drive and Williamson Street, are closed for a free, family-friendly event with park hubs at Olin Park, Law Park and McPike Park. A $10,000 donation from Madison Parks Foundation and nearly 200 volunteers will support the event from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—ensuring smooth event operations. City of Madison

- ➤ Madison Fire Department responded to a kitchen fire at a northside home on the 800 block of Northland Drive late Wednesday morning — 40 firefighters fought the flames and three people were displaced — as the cause remains under investigation. WMTV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Madison Gas and Electric and Alliant Energy will request higher rates next year as investments in generation, distribution, and grid maintenance increase costs — the utilities explained that these upgrades are needed to improve the system. Wisconsin State Journal

- ➤ Nine Girl Scouts were honored with the Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouting, at the annual Girl Gala on April 5 in Madison. The award recognized each scout's completion of at least 80 hours addressing a community issue (identifying problems and creating solutions) and underscored their service commitment. WISC-TV

- ➤ After 13 UW-Madison international students and alumni had their visas revoked without clear reason, immigration law experts say students and immigrants should keep extra copies of important documents (like passports and visas) and apply for reinstatement with DHS soon. They warn that the revocations may be part of a broader policy change that could affect many if quick action is not taken. WISC-TV
- ➤ On Wednesday, the City of Madison Transportation Commission voted unanimously to expand Metro Transit service to Verona. The new plan will extend Route D2 into Verona with buses every 30 minutes on weekdays and every 60 minutes on weekends and nights — it will also add para-transit service funded by Verona and the federal government. - ➤ Students and UW-Madison alumni gathered on Capitol Hill Wednesday to talk with lawmakers about keeping federal grants as the university faces funding cuts. The event—organized by the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association—stressed the need for support in research and financial aid. WMTV
