CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 14-year-old girl, Florencia Henthorn, died in a shooting on Sunday morning in Evansville as officers led by the Rock County Sheriff's Office began investigating the incident and a family friend set up a GoFundMe (with $4,400 raised of a $10,000 goal) to help cover funeral expenses. FOX 47
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ MMSD faced an internet outage Monday and Tuesday that left teachers without the tools needed to prepare for parent-teacher conferences—Michael Jones from Madison Teachers Inc. said the incident shows a need for backup plans that include input from educators and families. FOX 47
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City of Madison will cut the ribbon on the new Autumn Ridge Path on April 16 at 9 a.m. at 4346 Commercial Ave — the path connects Milwaukee Street to Commercial Ave with a bridge over Highway 30 and adds to the bike network using $2.5 million in federal funds and $2 million in local dollars. - ➤ Starting Saturday, April 12, the Streets Division will extend summer hours at the drop-off sites on 402 South Point Rd and 4602 Sycamore Ave and open the site at 121 East Olin Ave. The new schedules—lasting until December 4 for the first two sites and until November 30 for Olin—require Madison residents and taxpayers to show proof of eligibility and adhere to load and trip restrictions. - ➤ County officials said the Human Services department faced scrutiny after awarding two housing contracts to Madison nonprofit Urban Triage without a full board vote even though contracts over $100,000 must be reviewed.
