ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Madison fire crews responded Monday morning after seeing light smoke from a home on Ellen Ave where an unattended charcoal grill caused a small deck fire that was quickly put out with a water can and left damage only to the deck with no injuries. WISC-TV
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Colectivo Coffee announced Monday that it will open its fourth cafe at 826 Williamson Street this fall — a few blocks from B.B. Clarke Beach. The 2100-square-foot shop will have 60 indoor seats and 25 outdoor seats — and will offer its full menu including espresso, coffee and cold brew on tap. WISC-TV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sun Prairie reached 100% renewable electricity in all city operations (saving $40,000 between 2023 and 2024) and is now planning further green projects while Beloit is working with a sustainability firm to create its climate action plan. Both cities (with fewer than 40,000 residents) are asking local residents for input to cut carbon emissions and boost clean energy. Wisconsin Public Radio
- ➤ Urban Forestry began its spring planting yesterday, April 7, planting about 1,400 trees along City of Madison streets as trained arborists selected 33 different species for a diverse urban canopy. Crews will continue planting through the end of the month before returning later to prune trees and prepare for a fall round. City of Madison

- ➤ Candidate Anthony Nino Amato in the District 19 alder race has petitioned for a recount after the April 1 election showed a margin of less than 1 percent with him receiving 3,471 votes against incumbent John Guequierre's 3,480. The recount will start on April 10 at 9 a.m. at the Madison Municipal Building — no fee is charged to either candidate —. WKOW
- ➤ The Madison Police Department will host active shooter survival training on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. at 5702 Femrite Drive—police officers will explain tactics and key decisions used by survivors and show how these skills can help in local businesses, schools, places of worship, and clinics. - ➤ Acting City Clerk Michael Haas ordered a recount for District 19’s alder race after candidate Anthony Nino Amato filed a petition following an election vote difference of less than 1 percent on April 1—The Board of Canvassers will begin recounting at 9 a.m. on April 10 at the Madison Municipal Building. - ➤ Curbside yard waste pickup will start the week of April 13 for some neighborhoods, giving residents two chances—one in April and one in May—to have their waste collected. Homeowners must set out their yard waste at least four feet from obstructions and follow the posted set-out dates since crews will pick it up during the work week after the set-out date.
