  • A Girl Scout troop in Verona worked to reduce litter by writing letters to request more trash cans and signs for the community. The girls also bundled up and cleaned a local park on Sunday — showing their determination to make a difference.  WMTV

CRIME NEWS

  • Police are investigating a report that a man with a knife threatened a person near East Campus Mall late Sunday while the suspect—described as a black male with a mustache wearing a red baseball cap, dark jeans, a dark zip up jacket and white shoes—was last seen heading south on Regent St.  WKOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jacob Martonito, a sixth grader from Classical Charter School in Appleton, won the state spelling bee at Madison College’s Mitby Theatre on Saturday after 53 contestants battled through ten rounds of spelling and vocabulary tests—runner-up Ethan Robert from New Berlin will join him at the Scripps National Spelling Bee at National Harbor from May 27-29.  Wisconsin State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 1, voters will decide whether to add voter ID requirements to the state constitution, a change that would be hard to reverse. Proponents say the measure will secure elections—opponents worry it may limit access for some voters.  Madison Commons
  • On Sunday, Wisconsin attorney general Josh Kaul asked the liberal-controlled state Supreme Court to block billionaire Elon Musk from handing $1 million checks to two voters at a planned Green Bay rally as he argued the offer breaks state law. Musk's attorneys claimed the payments are protected free speech—two lower courts had already rejected the legal challenge.  WKOW
