  • Madison fire crews responded to a call at 11:08 p.m. Friday night at the 1400 block of Loreen Dr when a caller reported a small basement fire behind a dryer — firefighters found heavy charring around the outlet box and believe a faulty power adapter may have caused the blaze as they ventilated the home to clear the smoke.  WISC-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • An 18-year-old man was sentenced on Monday for his role in the Lux apartment shooting at a rooftop party that injured 12 people and now faces a three-year prison term if he violates his probation — police are still searching for the primary shooter.  WKOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The race for state superintendent of public instruction is set for April 1—incumbent Jill Underly faces challenger Brittany Kinser in a contest that will impact how federal funds and school testing standards support education in our state. Underly changed the way student performance is measured while Kinser promises to restore high academic standards and back school vouchers.  Isthmus
