ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Packers Avenue has reopened after the fire department and MGE safely contained a gas leak triggered by a vehicle crash that hit a main gas line on Pennsylvania Ave.—two people received treatment on scene without needing hospital transport.  WKOW

CRIME NEWS

  • Two suspects were identified and taken into custody after a pre-planned shooting at a Pleasant Spring BP gas station on March 7 that left 23-year-old Kyle A. Thrasher dead, with authorities arresting 18-year-old Creed D. Moore (in Murfreesboro on March 14) and 24-year-old Duane R. Johnson (in Riverdale on March 17) and planning to extradite both to Dane County soon.  WISC-TV
  • Law enforcement officials said two suspects were identified and taken into custody after a March 7 shooting at a Pleasant Springs BP gas station where 23-year-old Kyle A. CULTURE NEWS

  • Madison’s Center for Black Excellence and Culture has hired Janine Stephens Hale to manage daily operations including financial management, human resources, donor relations and administrative tasks when the center opens later this year on Madison’s south side — near South Park Street and the Beltline. A Wisconsin native with nonprofit leadership experience, she will guide the center as it prepares to become a dedicated space for community advancement.  WKOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nichelle Nichols is running unopposed in the April 1 election to keep her seat on the Madison school board for a second term — she serves as board chair and works as a senior equity consultant at the National Equity Project.  Isthmus

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Clerk’s Office will test DS200 tabulators tomorrow in a public event to verify that votes will be tallied accurately. Election staff will secure each machine with tamper-evident seals—each marked with a unique serial number for verification on Election Day.  City of Madison
  • A city report said that traffic deaths on Madison roads decreased while other traffic on the Beltline increased. The findings show mixed results for the transit plan — officials are reviewing the data for next steps.  Wisconsin State Journal
  • Dane County Supervisor Elizabeth Doyle said rising rents in her downtown district led her to resign from the county board and she will step down at the end of March— a special election will choose her replacement.  Wisconsin Public Radio
