CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested on Saturday at 1:40 p.m. near East Washington Avenue and Oak Street for flashing his gun during a road-rage incident — Madison police said.  Wisconsin State Journal
  • Madison police identified and interviewed a suspect in a Saturday afternoon stabbing on State Street (eyewitness statements and video footage provided key evidence).  Wisconsin State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bret Wagner and Martha Siravo are running for the District 3 school board seat that Laura Simkin once held—voters will choose one for a three-year term on April 1. This is the only contested race on the ballot.  Isthmus

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Madison Streets and Urban Forestry Division reminded residents about what can and cannot be recycled in honor of Global Recycling Day. Public information officer Bryan Johnson said items must be clean, empty and dry before entering recycling bins and noted that batteries, clothes and Styrofoam should not be included.  WKOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Early in-person absentee voting began in Madison on Tuesday as voters needed to bring a valid original photo ID (a driver's license, passport or Department of Education-issued card); the clerk's office has adopted new steps to ensure every ballot was counted following absentee issues in November.  FOX 47
  • Friends of San Damiano plans to hire its first executive director — the new hire will lead fundraising and manage the development of the Monona property. The organization and the City of Monona approved a memorandum that sets the framework for improvements up to $14 million while a feasibility study will offer findings in December.  WMTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center-Janesville and Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside performed their first dual leadless pacemaker procedures by implanting small wireless devices directly in the heart to regulate heartbeats and lower risks, and Dr. Imdad Ahmed said the technique minimizes complications like infections and lead problems — a promising advance in heart treatment — for patients.  FOX 47
