- ➤ Jewish Social Services of Madison announced a former refugee’s family donated $2 million to help fund its refugee resettlement program, though the money does not fill the current funding gap. - ➤ Parents filed a civil lawsuit in Dane County Circuit Court over the drowning of two young boys, ages 6 and 8, who fell through the ice at a Sun Prairie retention pond on Jan. 5 after being dropped off from school, alleging that Kobussen Buses, the school district, the city, and the fire and police departments knew the area was dangerous and failed to keep the children safe. - ➤ An improperly discarded cigarette started a deck fire at an eastside apartment on Saturday night—Madison fire crews responded to 1 Wind Stone Dr. at 6:46 p.m. and a sprinkler quickly turned on to stop the blaze, reducing damage to a deck chair and siding and keeping residents safe. WISC-TV

- ➤ Madison Police arrested a 25-year-old man on Sunday after he accidentally fired a gun in a hotel on the 2800 block of Coho Street — he shot himself in the hand and the bullet damaged a chair and nightstand in the adjacent room where a man and woman were sleeping, and a search of his room uncovered drugs that led to additional charges. - ➤ A shooting at the Harmony Apartments on Madison’s east side early Sunday left one person recovering that night—residents stated that they continue to worry about safety for kids in the complex. FOX 47
- ➤ Madison police identified a suspect in a State Street stabbing that occurred Saturday afternoon—officials said a fight between two known men escalated—and are now working to arrest him while the victim remains in hospital and is expected to recover; the department apologized for the delay in sharing details.
